Book your site for the 2014 FMCA Rally

We just booked a big group for the FMCA Rally to be held at the fairgrounds in Perry (7 miles from Twin Oaks). Spaces fill up super fast for this enormous event, so think about calling to book your site today! Twin Oaks is an easy, pretty drive to the fairgrounds and offers a quiet respite complete with a hot tub to soothe your aches and pains from all that walking at the rally!

Here is the announcement:

Perry, Georgia, March 17 to 20, 2014: FMCA’s 89th Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase

FMCA’s 89th Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase will be held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, March 17, 18, 19, and 20, 2014, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry, Georgia.

The 2014 gathering will be the eighth time FMCA has held a convention in Perry. The 1,100-plus-acre Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter has become a popular place for RV rallies, with its spacious parking facilities; expansive meeting, exhibition, and entertainment venues; and convenient location just off Interstate 75.

The Perry conclave is one of two conventions FMCA will host in 2014; dates and location for the second, which will be held during the summer, have yet to be announced.

We look forward to seeing you at the next FMCA Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase. All motorhome owners and members of the general public are invited to attend. For more information about current and future FMCA events for motorhome owners, call FMCA at (800) 543-3622 or (513) 474-3622.

A good time was had by all at the annual Twin Oaks RV Park Easter Egg Hunt!

Once again, we had a “hopping” good time at the annual Easter Egg Hunt! Everyone found plenty of candy-filled plastic eggs and everyone even found an egg with a prize ticket inside!  The Big Winner of the Golden Egg this year went to one of our campers who was just passing through on his way to meet the woman in North Carolina who donated the bone marrow that saved his life!  I’d say he was having a good week!

The day was then capped off with a massive pot-luck dinner with everyone leaving happy and stuffed!

Enjoy the pictures below and plan to spend Easter at Twin Oaks next year!

Take on Cooking School during your stay at Twin Oaks!

How is this for some fun? Camping at Twin Oaks, campfires at night and cooking school during the day! That’s right – cooking school! Just five miles down the road from Twin Oaks resides one of the very best Old South BBQ Cooking Schools in Georgia! Jack’s Old South BBQ, hosted by Georgia’s own, Myron Mixon.

In the world of competitive barbecue, nobody’s won more prize money, more trophies, or more adulation than Myron Mixon. And he comes by it honestly: From the time he was old enough to stoke a pit, Mixon learned the art of barbecue at his father’s side. He grew up to expand his parent’s sauce business, Jack’s Old South, and in the process became the leader of the winningest team in competitive barbecue. It’s Mixon’s combination of killer instinct and killer recipes that has led him to three world championships and more than 200 grand championships and made him the breakout star of TLC’s BBQ Pitmasters.

Jack’s Old South Cooking School is held at Myron’s home in Unadilla, Georgia, just a few miles south of Twin Oaks.  The March class is full, but seats are still available for June school. It’s pricey at $750, but you can learn enough from Myron to start your own BBQ franchise!

There will be a meet and greet dinner on Friday June 1st at night, and the class starts at 9:00am on Saturday, June 2nd with Whole Hog. We’ll then move on to Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, and Pork.

The class will end on Sunday, June 3rd at 3:00pm. The school will be run as close as possible to a contest format – sounds like a whole lotta fun!

Or head on down to Miami, Florida to see Myron Mixon Smokin’ with Nadia G of Bitchin’ Kitchen at:
The Q at The Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival 2012

Hosted by Emeril Lagasse and Guy Fieri, Myron will be teaming up with Nadia G, the fiery star of the Cooking Channel’s top-rated show, at this year’s Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival. Together they’ll serve the best barbecue that South Beach has ever tasted!

Reserve your seat in Myron’s class or simply order his book and a sampling of heavenly BBQ sauces by clicking here.

Creature Feature: Carlos the Umbrella Cockatoo

Carlos the Umbrella Cockatoo visits Twin Oaks RV Park!

We recently had the great pleasure of finally meeting one of our infamous long-time campers.  His name is Carlos and he’s been coming to Twin Oaks for ten years!  Carlos is an Umbrella Cockatoo and hits the road with his much-loved mother, Louise Gerber and their driver, Louise’s husband Bob.

Carlos is a very chatty bird, although truthfully, like most small children, his mother had to interpret what he was saying.  Carlos has his own repertoire of hip sayings. For example, instead of goodbye, Carlos squawks, “Toodle loo boo boo!”

Carlos loves to cuddle his mama!

You have to keep a close eye on Carlos though, as the first chance he gets he will unlatch his cage if left unlocked and slip out to spend the dinner hour nibbling on your pant leg! (True story – ask Bob!)

We sure did enjoy your visit Carlos and look forward to seeing you and your family again very soon!

John and I had tears in our eyes from laughing at this video. This dog is famous now – I just saw him on a tv commercial! Enjoy!

Resolutions

new-years-RESOLUTIONS-Twin-Oaks-RV-Park-Elko-Perry-Georgia-GAWe have some resolutions at Twin Oaks. First, we resolve to maintain a clean, safe and happy park for so many who appreciate our little stopover on their way to places north and south. We want to encourage more groups to stay with us and have some fun in our group gathering hall. We want to start a garden here at the park too to share some fresh vegetables. So what will it be for you? Lose weight? Stop smoking? Waste less money? Eat healthier? I would suggest that we all resolve to simply spend a minute every day with our Maker, counting our blessings, of which we have many. For those who could use a few more blessings, we can all resolve to share our own abundance. And always remember – hugs are free! Give away as many as you can!
