Amazon CamperForce: What’s it all about?

Amazon CamperForceWe are fast approaching the start of a BIG raise from Amazon for what they call their Amazon CamperForce! We have encountered quite a few full-time RVers at Twin Oaks who have worked these seasonal jobs and the reports are all good. Amazon offers RVers a full hook-up site along with full or part-time work in one of their enormous warehouses. And on November 1, 2018, the pay is going to increase from $10.75 an hour to a whopping $15.00 an hour! On top of that, you can earn $15.75 if you opt to work nights and/or weekends, and you can rack up overtime as well.

There are three types of jobs work-campers do for Amazon CamperForce: Packing, Stowing and Picking. Packing involves scanning the totes gathered by the pickers and preparing them for shipment. The Amazon system is pretty cool, in that you apparently scan all the items in an order, and the computer screen tells you what size box you will need. You get the box (which a machine folds for you), place the order items inside, tape it up and send it on its way down the conveyor. Stowing is the process of unpacking shipments from suppliers and placing them on the shelves of the warehouse in the correct place making them available to the pickers. And the pickers, as the job title implies, go around the massive warehouse with a plastic totes on wheels and a scanner in hand, “picking” the items off the shelves that fulfill a particular order. These warehouses are enormous, and you can find yourself walking 5-6 miles a day (and up to 15 miles on a really busy day) as a picker, which is a good thing if you’re looking to lose weight or stay fit! But you may not want this job if you have trouble with your knees, hips or feet. If you do end up “picking”, wear a fitness gadget if you do this job and track your steps!

All in all, we have had nothing but good reports from RVers who have worked with Amazon CamperForce. They also enjoyed the good friends they made and the good times at the Amazon campgrounds on site. The Amazon Culture is nicely aligned with the RV culture, and Amazon is fully committed to hiring military veterans, who can be found in large numbers in RV communities. If you are healthy and want to work seasonally, why not try out a job with Amazon CamperForce this holiday season? They are hiring right now – and in fact, some locations are already full. So get that application in ASAP, starting here at the “Talent Community Form”. Good luck!
